Fighters to compete for England
TWO top Hinckley fighters have been selected to represent England in the forthcoming 10 World Karate Championships.
Members of the Simon Coope Karate School travelled to Ponds Forge in Sheffield for the British 4 Nations Championships.
Although all performed well, the star of the show for the club was Carys Jones in the 13 years girls section.
She won her first fight 5-0, her second fight 1-0, her third fight 5-0, in the semi-finals she won 2-1 before going on to win gold 5-0.
Ryan Ford, Kyle and Luke MacKay, William Tatham and David Coope all took bronze in their respective fighting categories.
Libby Davies narrowly lost in the bronze final to come fourth.
Adithyia Kunigiri and Tyler Hames were both very unlucky as they met the eventual winner in their first fights but as they were under 14 there was no repechage so didn’t get chance to fight for bronze.
William Goold and Rachel Martin both competed really well but their lack of experience at this level showed and they both went out first round.
Simon Coope said: “It is with immense pride I have just been informed that William Tatham and Carys Jones have been selected to represent England at the forthcoming 10th World Karate Championships, Cadet, Junior and U21 to be held in Santa Cruze, Tenerife in October 25-29 2017. For the Simon Coope Karate School this is a fantastic achievement with the club now getting five members to full international level including England’s only disabled competitors.”
