Barwell gear up for season with friendlies

-

BARWELL continued their warm up for the new Northern Premier League campaign with two strong performances against teams from higher leagues.

The Canaries held Nuneaton Town to an entertaining 3-3 draw on Saturday July 8 in a match that saw lots of incidents including a red card and a wonder goal.

Jimmy Ginnelly said afterwards: “I thought it was a very even match spoilt by some poor decisions from the referee. I’d like to thank both sets of players for putting on a bit of a spectacle for the 300-plus fans who turned up.

“It was a very good game of football. We had five or six starters missing and we still gave them a great game and I can only say we don’t look in too bad a shape ourselves, but as we all know in football it’s a funny old game.”

On Monday night Solihull Moors, from the National League Premier, were the visitors to Kirkby Road and came away as 0-2 winners.

Solihull’s better quality squad shone through in the last 20 minutes but Ginnelly was still pleased with the game.

He said: “It was a great workout for the lads and good minutes in the bank. We did very well for 60 to 70 minutes but the big difference was the strength of the squads. They had subs who were top class players and ours were trialists.”

Entrance to the game is £6 for adults and £4 for concessions with everyone welcome.
