Machete raiders target store

MACHETE-WIELDING robbers marched into a convenience store in Burbage hours after attempting to break into a Hinckley bookies, police believe.

Officers from Leicestershire Police believe that both of the masked men seen in these CCTV images were involved in two incidents on Sunday July 23.

Now they are appealing for witnesses to the robbery and attempted robbery.

Police were called at just after 6pm on Sunday evening following reports two masked men with crowbars tried to get into Mark Jarvis bookmakers on Rugby Road in Hinckley.

They failed to get in and left in a silver car.

One of the men was wearing a distinctive red mask and a jacket with a grey motif.

Hours later, at about 10.20pm two masked men, one of them wearing a distinctive red mask, went into the Spar on Lutterworth Road in Bur- bage armed with machetes demanding money.

They left with a quantity of cash and escaped in a silver vehicle.

No one was hurt in the incident.

Detective Sergeant Mark Zanker said: “We’ve got some excellent CCTV images from the supermarket so we’re hoping someone will recognise the clothing these people were wearing and get in touch.

“We also know that on Wednesday July 19 a member of the public spoke to a member of staff at Mark Jarvis reporting people acting suspiciously near the building and we would like to speak to that person so would urge them to get in touch.

“Luckily no one has been hurt in these two incidents but we are really keen to catch the people responsible as quickly as possible.”
