Charity head shave in support of leukaemia battling brother

-

A BOY from Burbage is shaving his head to support his older brother’s battle with leukaemia.

Ethan Lord, 12, is having his trim at KH Hair, in Station Road in Hinckley.

His brother Callum, 16, is having chemotherapy at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham for acute lymphoblastic leukaemia.

One of Ethan’s schoolmates, 12-year-old Reuben Thelwall, is also joining him for a head shave.

The three boys attend Hastings High School in St Catherine’s Close, Burbage.

They are using the event to raise funds for A Gift to Lift and Teenage Cancer Trust (TCT), the group which funds the unit where Callum is receiving treatment.

Callum was diagnosed in June, right in the middle of his GCSE final exams.

He managed to sit five of the tests before half term, even though he was poorly.

Ethan and Callum’s mum, Rachel, said: “We cannot begin to tell you how proud we are of both of our sons.

“Without the TCT’s help, Callum wouldn’t be making the progress he is. They do fantastic work and we want to give a little something back.

“And we know A Gift to Lift is a local charity who make a real difference to blood cancer patients’ lives.”

Rachel said the school has been very supportive, even choosing TCT as the charity for.its annual non-uniform day in July.

Callum has now completed four weeks of intensive treatment, and will continue his treatment as a day patient.

Rachel said: “The TCT unit is fabulous and allow very flexible visiting, and University railway station is right next door.

“They’ve done so much for our family; that’s why we want to raise money to give a little back.”

The sponsored shave is on Wedneday August 2 at KH Hair.

The good cause has already raised more than £350.

You can make a donation on Ethan’s Just Giving page.
