Bloom creation has a touch of magic
CHILDREN from an Earl Shilton school created a magical kingdom to enchant Britain in Bloom judges.
Nearly 30 Year 3 pupils from St Peter’s RC Primary School, helped by parents and teachers, created the miniature world and planted flowers behind a row of shops, alongside the town’s Wood Street car park.
The seven- and eight-year-olds were then on hand to show judges from the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) which runs the community contest how they had helped to brighten the environment for shoppers and passers by.
Earl Shilton was judged in the East Midlands in Bloom competition, which is a regional contest run as part of the national scheme.
Last year’s entry saw the town scoop a coveted silver-gilt RHS medal, second only to the top award of a gold medal for horticultural, environmental and community achievement.
Class teacher Laura Moore said: “The children loved taking part in a community project and should all be very proud of what they have achieved.
“We hope that people will pop along and see for themselves.”
Their creation includes welly houses, painted plant pots and rainbowcoloured rocks.
The children are now looking for a new community challenge in the new term.
East Midlands in Bloom competition results will be announced in September.
