A TV chef is demonstrating some of her best recipes at a pie festival in Melton Mowbray

Frances Quinn, who won the 2013 series of Great British Bake Off and hails from Market Harborough, is appearing at the two-day PieFest event.

She said: “The opportunity to show the audience my bake is a true honour.

“Working with Mary Berry on the Great British Bake Off means I am only too aware of how important it is to avoid a soggy bottom.”

Ms Quinn will speak at the Pie Theatre, which is featuring talks on How to Rate a Pie, a demonstration of hand-raising a Melton Mowbray Pork Pie, and a Pie Panel.

Organiser Matthew O’Callaghan, who is part of the Melton Mowbray Food Partnership, said: “We’re delighted that Frances can join us at this year’s PieFest.

“We have a wide range of pie makers from all over Britain exhibiting at the event so as a star baker, Frances will be in really good company.”

Visitors to the festival can enjoy sampling, buying and eating, and learn how to make the perfect pie

Award-winning pie makers will be selling their wares and there will be a Pie Kitchen, where peckish visitors can try some of the pastries fresh from the oven, with mashed potato, vegetables and other acommpaniments.

During her time on Great British Bake Off, Ms Quinn prepared a doublecrusted peach pie and a cherry baklava filo pie.

She regularly appears on TV and radio and published her first book, ‘Quintessential Baking’, in 2015.

There will also be cheese, beer, cake, wine, chutneys, cider and more entertainment at the festival.

PieFest 2017 is being sponsored by Dickinson and Morris, with Melton Mowbray Market also contributing to the event.

It is being held at the Cattle Market on July 29 and 30, running from 10am to 4pm on both days, with Frances doing her show at 1pm on both days.

Admission is £3 and free for children under 16.
