Fish don’t disappoint as large turn out nets nearly 500lb of catches

WITH the recent good catches at Lychgate Fisheries, Wednesday’s Open match attracted a good turn out and the fish responded with the top ten anglers weighing almost 500lbs between them.

Leading the way and qualifying for the Lychomania final was Kev Redman, who pole fished maggot on peg 7 to land 65lb 6ozs of mainly carp.

Bruce Robinson used floating bread to take second place with a 62lb 14ozs net of carp. Robin Duffy used pellet on the method to weigh 54lb 8ozs for third place. Paul Bates pole fished maggots to finish fourth with 51lb 10ozs.

The was a peg-to-peg battle for top spot in Higham Lane’s Thursday Open match.

At the end Hans Bauer took the honours, drawn on peg 3.

Hans landed nine carp in the first hour and continued to catch steadily, finishing with 135lb 7ozs.

Dave Massey on peg 2, made a slow start, but still managed a respectabl­e 93lb 11ozs to finish second. John Varley finished third along way behind with a 20lb 1oz catch.

Shackersto­ne’s Members’ Wednesday evening series final qualifying round was fished along the Barton Road length.

Keith Brown landed 2lb 9ozs of small roach and bream to win.

John Gamble took second place with a 2lb catch with Doug Dimbleby finishing third with 1lb 10ozs. Winner of the series was John Gamble with 38 points. Keith Brown came second with 31 points and Mick Smith was third with 27 points.

Higham Lane’s Wednesday evening Bag Up Open was won by Mark Ward who pole fished paste on peg 23 to weigh 48lb 9ozs. John Varley came second with a 48lb 8oz catch from peg 5 with “Yoey” finishing third with 36lb 9ozs.

Measham’s Wednesday evening contest fished on the canal at Snarestone was won by Ron Scales who landed two bream and some small fish to weigh 5lb 5ozs. John Johnson weighed 3lb 10ozs of small fish to finish second. Ian Baker came third with a 3lb 8oz catch.

Maynes Lakes’ mid week open match was won by Ian Stripp who caught steadily through out the match on pole fished pellet to weigh 43lb 5ozs of small carp.

Results: pool one, section one: Ian Stripp, peg 32; section two: Terry Sanderson, 41lb 3ozs from peg 34. Pool two, section three: Darryl Moore, 33lb peg 8; section four; Alby Beehl, 39lb 2ozs peg 14.

The Summer League series at Higham Lane continued with yet another win for Andy Findley.

Drawn on peg 1, “the Fin” used both pole and feeder tactics to catch 74lb 3ozs. Chris Whyte weighed 58lb to take second place from peg 25. Martin Ireland came third with 54lb 10ozs while John Varley finished fourth with 53lb 7ozs.

Shackersto­ne’s Members’ Waring Cup match was fished along the Woodside length. Ian Shaw caught one big bream and a small perch to weigh a winning 3lb 2ozs. Andy Smith landed a small pike and a very small perch to finish second with 2lb 13ozs. Doug Dimbleby caught roach to finish third with a 2lb 5oz catch.

Sunday’s open match finished a busy week at Higham Lane but there was still some good catches despite the extra pressure of four matches in five days. Chris Wright won from peg 21 with a 61lb 11oz catch. Hans Bauer came a close second with a 60lb 3oz catch from peg 2 while Terry Sanderson finished third with 54lb 11ozs.

Higham Lane Fishery have an open match every Thursday, draw 9am.

Lychgate Fisheries hold open/ Lychomania qualifier matches on Saturday, draw 9am and on Sunday, draw 12.30pm.

Shackersto­ne have an open match on the canal this Sunday, draw 7.45am at the Rising Sun.

Brookfield have an open match this Sunday at Stoke Golding, draw 9am.

Maynes Lakes have an open match every Wednesday, draw 10am.

Lychgate Fisheries have a Wednesday open / qualifier, draw 9am.

Higham Lane have an open match every Wednesday evening, draw 5.30pm.
