Good start is thwarted

RAIN was the winner as all local cricket was abandoned around teatime on Saturday.

Hinckely Amateur travelled to Ratby where Ash Harrison had the hosts in trouble at 15-4.

In an inspired spell he took all four wickets and conceded just one run.

Richard Leggett came to the rescue with a hard-fought 96, Ash Harrison finished with a season’s best 4-18 and two wickets each for Jamie Harris-Ensor and Alan York as the home side were bowled out for 191.

But a run chase was not to be as Amateur batsmen were thwarted by the persistent rain and the match was eventually called off at 5pm.

Like the first team Amateur 2nd XI got off to fine start at Ashby Road as they had high- flying Broughton Astley at 5-15 with Ash Woodward and Matt Smith sharing the wickets.

Brothers Thomas Dann with 117 and Aaron Dann (42) staged a fightback and despite Steve Proctor taking 4-47 they posted a respectabl­e 195 as they were bowled out in the last of their 45 overs.

To complete the hat-trick Amateur 3rd XI scored 116 at Swallows Green.

Paul Musson top scored with a season’s best 46.

Once gain although opposition Maher started there innings, rain drove the players off the field after a couple of overs.

With all the games suffering the same fate all league positions remain the same and all the players will be hoping for a bit of sunshine this weekend.
