Marching bands at the ready for village’s big day

ORGANISERS of this year’s Barwell carnival are gearing up for the big day on Saturday August 19.

Following on from the 70th consecutiv­e year of the carnival in 2016, organisers are eager for this outing to live up to expectatio­ns.

The procession begins at 1.30pm and will feature a variety of floats and walking floats, as well as marching bands Standard Triumph pipe band from Coventry and the Melton Mowbray Toy Soldiers.

This year’s Royal Family will be leading the procession, which includes queen Alexandra Wade, princesses Ellie-Mae Burrows, Erin Armstrong, Olivia Armson and Connie-li Marvesley, and princes Ryland Webster and George Pagett.

Arena attraction­s at Barwell Academy field will include performanc­es from Beatz dance group from Hinckley, Toy Soldiers, Vital Martial Arts.

There will also be a number of children’s race events.

Craft stalls and a variety of food and fairground rides will also be on the field, as well as a carnival raffle.

Mathew Hulbert, chairman of Barwell Carnival Associatio­n, said: “We’re really excited about this year’s Carnival which, as ever, is set to be a colorful, exciting, fun, day for all.

“I’m very proud, as chair of the organizing committee, of the efforts of our small but hugely dedicated team who ensure the carnival happens each and every year.

“We’re now counting down the days until our village’s biggest and best day of the year!”
