Age UK boss says charity is struggling with demand

-

A CHARITY with shops in Hinckley and Earl Shilton spoke of its struggle to meet growing demand for its services.

Age UK supports elderly people with advice and care for long-term health conditions, a work which it says has never been so important.

Anthony Donovan is executive director of the group’s Leicestershire and Rutland branch.

He said: “Because of funding cuts, a large number of support services for vulnerable older people have closed down, putting many older people at risk while at the same time placing increased pressure on family members who may be carers.

“Large numbers of people of varying ages and backgrounds are contacting Age UK as they desperately seek help.”

“Age UK Leicester Shire & Rutland has to raise more money in order to fund services, becoming more reliant on its network of charity shops.”

The shops raise much needed income which is put into service provision for the most needy.

Donations from the public are urgently needed, particularly clothing, bric-a-brac, books and furniture.

Clothing and small items can be taken directly to the Age UK outlets in Castle Street in Hinckley, and in Wood Street in Earl Shilton.

Furniture donations can be collected for free by calling Hinckley 234466.
