Wait nearlyover for carnival comeback

Movie madness ready to grip the town

EXCITING times are upon us, as this year’s Hinckley Carnival takes place this weekend.

The fun kicks off on Sunday (August 27) with the entertainm­ent and extravagan­t costumes themed around Movie Madness.

Procession judging is at 11am, with the floats leaving Hinckley Academy in Butt Lane at noon.

The floats will make their merry way through Leicester Road, Derby Road, Upper Bond Street, Lower Bond Street, The Borough, Regent Street, Coventry Road and finally into Clarendon Park.

TKT Cheerleadi­ng, Mys2dio and Vicky-Anne Academy of Dance and Drama will be performing, as will St Mary’s Hinckley Marching Band and Barwell Marching Band.

This year’s carnival queen is Chelsie Griffin, who said she is looking forward to spending the day with the carnival family and “a great success and a funfilled day for all.”

Princess Harriet Richards, 10, and prince Joshua Ashfield, 8, will accompany her in lead- ing the procession.

The fun fair, stalls and other arena events in Clarendon Park will open at 1.30pm.

Castle Mead Radio will be compereing the field events, with entertainm­ent arranged in 15-minute slots.

Nuneaton dog training and a Kylie Minogue tribute by Feverish will also be in action during the day.

Korean martial arts group Kuk Sool Won of Hinckley & Burbage and Hinckley District Past and Present will also be running stalls.

Amenities will include hot drinks, ice creams, burgers and an array of other snack and sweet treats.

Organiser Vicky Martin said: “We have lots of activities at the field, as well as the fun fair.

“Weather permitting, it looks to be a great family day.”

Volunteers are still needed to help marshall the event and you can still volunter to marshall, or help out in another capacity via the carnival website.

A final organisati­onal meeting is taking place at Ashby Road Sports Club, tomorrow (Thursday August 24) at 7pm.
