Show seeks longest, biggest and heaviest
DESFORD Community Produce Show is back for its third year.
With a whopping 110 classes from heaviest veg to digital garden movies, there should be a category for everyone.
School children have a special chance to shine, with classes for young growers up to Year 6 and others for those from Year 7 to sixth formers.
The show of fruits, flowers, vegetables, home baking, making and handicrafts will be held on Saturday September 3 in The Church Centre on Main Street, with public viewing from 1pm.
Admission is 50p for adults and free for children and exhibitors, with trophies to be presented at 4.30pm.
Organisers from Desford Allotment Garden Association describe it as “a family, fun event open to everyone in Desford and surrounding parishes”.
Veg classes include the largest pumpkin, the longest carrot and the heaviest onion.
Floral classes range from the tallest sunflower to an arrangement in a wine glass.
And smallholders may like to submit a clutch of eggs with a photograph of the hen that laid them.
Younger entrants can make a garden in a seed tray or a fruit and vegetable animal while older students can submit ashort digital movie on a garden theme.
Photography classes range from a traditional black and white print to a digital sketch created using electronic media software.
Show schedules, detailing all classes and submission criteria, are available online or by calling either John on 07966 276784 or Allen on 07709 034410.
Judging will be carried out by members of the Leicester and Leicestershire Horticultural Judges Guild.
