Amateur promotion dream alive

AMATEURS’ promotion push continued with a comprehens­ive win at Bardon Hill.

Accurate bowling restricted the home side to 147-6 in their 45 overs with Mick Butterwort­h (3-36) and Ash Harrison (2-39) being the pick.

Amateur paced their reply well as they were led home by opener Jason Tipping who scored a season’s best with 76 not out.

Sam Smart gave him good support with 24 as they got home by five wickets with six overs to spare.

With all their rivals winning, Amateur kept in second place in one of the tightest divisions in the league.

Amateur 2nd XI got a much-needed win at Ashby Road against Charnwood Old Boys.

Dodging the showers, Amateurs bowled the visitors out for 122 with Steve Proctor and Sam Gill getting 4-22 and Gareth Patterson 2-36.

Richard Stanford (20) and Gareth Patterson (24) got the innings off to a good start, then Sam Gill (27) and Ben Smith (21), both unbeaten, guided the side home by eight wickets.

Amateur 3rd XI took on unbeaten City Cricketers at Swallows Green and put in a commendabl­e performanc­e bowling the Leicester-based side out for 232. Skipper Cliff Pardoe took 6-45 and Paul Musson 3-35. Pardoe completed a fine match top scoring with 36 runs as they were bowled out for 106.
