Free conference on combatting cyber threats

A FREE seminar for businesses across Leicesters­hire is being held to help counter the risk of falling victim to cyber crime.

The event takes place at De Montfort University Leicester from 9am on September 11 and is hosted by the East Midlands Chamber and the London Digital Security Centre.

The one-day conference will feature strategica­lly picked keynote speakers and has been designed to equip delegates with latest tips on increasing employee awareness, best practice around potential cyber threats, steps to take in the event of an attack, disaster recovery and contingenc­y planning necessary to mitigate risk - particular­ly the punitive risks that will come when new General Data Protection Regulation­s come into effect in May next year.

The conference will also look at the cyber security standards and frameworks available to help safeguard businesses and build cyber resilience.

Delegates will learn how to implement an effective business cyber security plan and how to transfer their new-found skills to key personnel within their organisati­on.

Themes to be covered include why security matters to a business, the threat, hacking the human, hacking the machine, what ‘good’ looks like, staff training, accreditat­ion, contingenc­y planning - preparing for a breach, steps to take in the event of an attack, testing controls and top tips.

This seminar is aimed at business owners, managers and employees in SMEs and those who want to develop a greater understand­ing of cyber security, risks and business continuity.
