Big Collection will help people in need

-

SALVATION ARMY members and supporters in Hinckley will be carrying out their annual Big Collection this month.

Throughout September, accredited individuals will be making door-to-door collections, asking people to donate towards the church’s work in the community.

This year, instead of delivering envelopes and returning to collect them, volunteers will make a single visit to households with sealed collecting boxes.

Every collector will be wearing a sealed permit, signed by themselves and Major Carol Evans, who is the new commanding officer of the Hinckley corps.

Major Evans said: “Our supporters are our lifeblood. Hinckley Salvation Army church and community Centre is part of over 800 centres delivering services to people and communities day-in and day-out.

“We are extremely grateful for their ongoing support which is not taken for granted.”

The Salvation Army’s Big Collection raises vital funds for the church’s programme of social and community work including running lunch clubs for older and lonely people, supporting men, women and families experiencing homelessness and providing a safe place for people who are vulnerable and in need, including victims of crime.

A Salvation Army spokesman said: “Fundraising through the Big Collection will help the Salvation Army continue changing lives for the better throughout the UK.

“Donating in this way is essential for the Salvation army to continue this good work.”
