Amateurs hopes alive

AMATEURS kept themselves in title contention with a four wicket win over bottom of the table Mountsorre­l at Ashby Rd.

The visitors had inflicted a surprise win earlier in the season over the Amateurs and they scored briskly, being bowled out for a competitiv­e 176 off 38 overs.

Ash Harrison, Sam Smart and Jamie Harris-Ensor all taking three wickets.

James Axon was first batsman to go in the Amateurs’ reply but Jason Tipping continued his good form with 42.

Despite some nervous moments as wickets fell at regular intervals Alan York scored an unbeaten 72 to guide the side home by four wickets and claim 25 precious points.

In a rearranged game on the Sunday Amateur 2nd lost out to promotion seeking Anstey and Glenfield.

The visitors posted a competitiv­e 201 being bowled out in the final over, Steve Proctor taking 3 wickets.

Amateur got off to a poor start and at 45-5 were in real trouble but Alan York’s good form continued as he struck 94 but it was to no avail as they went down by 47 runs.

Amateur 3rd had their best result of the season as they beat Broomleys by nine wickets.

On a superb Swallows Green wicket the visitors romped to 201-4, Skipper Dan Hall with 44, and unbeaten 60s from Cliff Pardoe and Ken Burke in a superbly timed run chase got the Amateurs home with two overs to spare.
