Poor parking warning from fire crews
FIREFIGHTERS in Hinckley have taken to social media to point out problem parking which could put lives in jeopardy.
Photographs of a fire engine attempting to navigate narrow streets with cars parked either side were posted on the town station’s Facebook page.
Along with the startling images, which showed the appliance barely scraping through, was the comment: “Recently crews have been out and about in the Hinckley area. We are very aware that some streets are notoriously ‘slim’ but it doesn’t help when people are illegally parked.”
One photograph, taken on a Thursday lunchtime, focused on a black Peugeot left on a single yellow line restricting parking from 8am to 6pm.
The post continued: “Please consider where you park, ask yourself “could a fire engine get through this gap?” If it couldn’t you could be risking people’s lives.”
Support for the warning came with comments, shares and ‘angry’ faces. Yvonne Green said: “I see Druid Street is on there. I remember years ago a fire crew had to literally bounce a car to move it so that they could get to a burning house at the bottom of Druid Street. It’ll never change.”
