Rain foils Amateurs’ league race

-

HINCKLEY Amateurs were left frustrated as persistent rain ruined their end of season promotion push at Ashby Road.

A thunderstorm hit just as the players took the field to leave the square under water.

Great efforts by the players got the pitch playable for a 25 over game and the visitors were 141-5 in 22 overs with James Axon taking 3-27.

But another heavy rain shower put paid to the Amateurs starting their reply and chasing a win to help their promotion hopes.

With rivals being able to play it cost the Amateurs top spot but promotion is still in their hands with the final game away at Melton this Saturday.

Amateur 2nd had a reduced over game, also due to the weather, at Cropston as they restricted the home side to 191-7 with Matt Smith and Steve Proctor picking up two wickets each.

Steve Mustin with 32 and Paul Ley with an unbeaten 31 got the Amateurs to 116-5 before rain forced an early finish.

In the local derby at Burbage the home side scored an impressive 205-4 with Chris Atkins scoring an unbeaten century.

Paul Musson pick of the bowlers, Nigel Hind with a hard hitting unbeaten 66 led the reply as the Amateur 3rd string settled for a draw at 133-4.
