Promotion hunt still on

-

BARWELL CC 1sts match against local rivals Hinckley Town 2nds was a must win game with promotion still a mathematical possibility.

In a rain affected match Hinckley batted first and scored 159-9 off their 30 overs.

The wickets were shared between Liam O’Rourke (3-30), Nick Hines (3-35), Lee Skene (2-36) and Ady Baker (1-20).

Barwell’s run chase got off to a shaky start as they were reduced to 25-2 after seven overs.

However, a century partnership between Guy Norris and Clint Baker brought the game back in Barwell’s favour. After Baker was bowled for 34 it was left to Guy Norris (92 not out) and Liam O’Rourke (11 not out) to see Barwell to victory with just seven balls remaining.

The win leaves Barwell with an outside chance of promotion as they travel away to Syston Town 2nds for their final game of the season. Barwell 2nds travelled away to Quorns 2nds. Batting first Barwell were indebted to scores from Josh Moore (45), Sam Taylor (34) and Eddie Cross (16) for their total of 145-7 off a rain reduced 41 overs.

Quorn’s reply never got going, largely due to Chris Moore’s 5-17 and Sam Taylor’s 2-30. Declan Higgins went on to claim 2-1 off his four overs. Unfortunately Quorn’s last two batsmen dug in for the draw and, despite using various combinations of bowlers,

Barwell were unable to claim that final wicket leaving them with a frustrating but creditable winning draw as Quorn ended on 71-9.
