Golf day raises hundreds for cancer care hospice

-

ALMOST £2,000 was raised to help support services for the terminally ill in the fourth annual Brian Tate Memorial Trophy golf day.

Organised by Dave Fitch, brother-in-law to Brian and member of the Queen’s Head Golf Society, the event has become a highlight of the calender for Hinckley golfers.

This year the tournament and proceeds from a raffle and auction amassed a grand £1,787.10 for Loros.

Dave said: “Brian was cared for at home by nurses from Loros and they did an amazing job.

“When he died I decided I would like to do something to help the charity in his name.”

Around 35 people attended the sporting fundraiser held at Nuneaton Golf Club with some travelling from Leicester, Stratford and even Cornwall.

Peter Thompson came out the winner this year and Brian’s widow, Rosemary, went along to present the trophies.

Debbie Dickman, fundraising co-ordinator at Loros Hospice said: “We are very grateful to everyone involved for their generous continued donation.

“This amazing amount is equivalent to the cost of one of our specialist nurses to look after our inpatients for more than 17 days.

“It is a fantastic contribution to the care we provide.”

Dave and his fellow golfers are based at the Queens Head pub on Upper Bond Street Hinckley and play a different course each month.
