A SERIES of fun events are being held across the borough to inspire the older generation to stay active and get fit.

‘Feel Alive From 65’ week starts on September 25 and runs until October 1, and will see dozens of activities, including bowls and line dancing, takes place to encourage the over-65s to get moving.

Run by Leicestershire and Rutland Sport in partnership with the borough council, the event aims to show that there has never been a better time for those over 65 to improve their physical health and wellbeing.

Walking football is one of the sports available, and will take place at Green Towers on Tuesday 26 from 11am, while a walking version of netball is also taking place on the same day at Hinckley Leisure Centre from 7pm.

Gentler activities such Tai Chi, health walks and chair based exercise sessions are also availa- ble, right through to the slightly more energetic line dance, Zumba gold and aqua classes.

Physical activity is an important part of our lives and is especially important as we get older. It is a fantastic way to improve mental health, keep the brain active and have the chance to make new friends and new memories.

Abbi Tyson, sport development officer with Leicestershire and Rutland Sport, said: “‘Feel Alive From 65’ Week is a great, innova- tive campaign aimed to encourage and inspire older adults across Leicestershire, Leicester and Rutland to become more physically active.

“The week provides nearly 300 activities and opportunities to improve physical and mental wellbeing, meet new people and have some fun.”
