New group offers support for dementia

-

PEOPLE with dementia and their carers are invited to make use of a new group being set up in the borough.

Mayflower Good Times Together Club will meet for the first time at Markfield Community Centre on Mayflower Close in the village on Friday September 22 from 10.30am until noon.

After that, it will meet on the third Friday of each month at the same time.

Open to people from across the village and beyond, the club has been set up to offer targeted support by the team that runs Markfield’s Mayflower Cluib for older and vulnerable adults from around the area.

Co-ordinator Ron Grantham explained: “It’s a new club for people suffering from dementia, the onset of dementia and those who care for them.

“It will provide a relaxing place for carers and the cared for to meet others in similar situations and share experiences and coping ideas.

“The aim is to make sure they feel welcome, not alone and not left out.

“It will help people get information and advice on support available, from guest speakers and relevant organisations.

“Above all, it will encourage people to get out of the house and enjoy social activities and have fun and good times together.”

Admission is £1.50 per person and includes a hot drink and light refreshments.

There is no need to book, so people can just turn up on the day.
