New fruit and veg stall for hospital site

-

HEALTHY food options for patients, staff and visitors are on the up thanks to a new grocery stall at Glenfield Hospital.

Following a suggestion from NHS workers, Enderby firm PB Fruit and Veg have been enlisted to run a stall at the entrance to Glenfield.

Run by Penny Benedict, the stall offers passers-by the opportunity to buy quality, fresh fruit and veg.

If the idea catches on stalls will be introduced at Leicester Hospitals other locations - the General and Leicester Royal Infirmary.

Brian Young, who is working with the estates and facilities team in retail catering at Leicester’s Hospitals, said: “The fruit and veg stall was an idea that was raised by staff and then developed through our health and well-being group.

“Making fresh fruit and vegetables easily available at the hospitals will actively encourage staff, patients and visitors to eat healthier in line with the current NHS healthy eating guidelines, which is part of the trust’s overall health and well-being strategy.”

Penny already operates a stall at a garden centre in Leicestershire, as well as another hospital in the East Midlands, and has been in the business for 16 years.

The stall will be open from 7.30am to 4.30pm Monday to Friday outside the main entrance at Glenfield Hospital.
