Cuddly toys face fears on bungee challenge
BRAVE bears will be bungee jumping from the top of one of Hinckley’s most iconic landmarks as part of a fun family fundraiser.
The cuddlies will be cast forth from the tower of St Mary’s Parish Church with owners asked to stump up £2 to provide their prized possessions an adventure neither party will forget.
All money amassed will by used to help improve access to the church’s entrance.
The event, which when held in 2015 attracted keen crowds and subsequent YouTube videos, takes place from noon to 4pm on Sunday September 23, the day Hinckley hosts its annual classic motorshow.
To protect the plushes and prevent any harm coming to them some new safety equipment has been purchased thanks to a £100-donation Hinckley and Building Society.
The society’s own bear, Fearless Freddie, will also from Rugby be joining in and he went along with customer assistant Nate Jones to check out the launch point and prepare himself for the plunge.
Nate said: “Freddie can’t wait for the bungee jump and hopes lots of other bears join him. Knowing that the society has enabled the purchase of new equipment means we are very confident that all the bears will come to no harm, however soft they are.”
As well as a certificate for every bear that successfully jumps from more than 100 feet up, there is also a barbecue for their owners and other spectators to enjoy.
St Mary’s Vicar, Reverend John Whittaker, said: “Many thanks to Hinckley and Rugby Building Society for its sponsorship of this event. We hope visitors will have great fun and the soft toys an amazing jump.
“A fun filled afternoon awaits in Hinckley, so the young - and young at heart - should grab their favourite soft toy, come to the church and enjoy the excitement of this unique and exciting teddy bear bungee jump.”
