-

HINCKLEY Town in the last game of the season visited newly promoted Uppingham on Saturday and in a rain-affected game lost by nine wickets.

Hinckley’s cause was not helped by the fact that they started the game with only nine players.

Uppingham won the toss and asked Hinckley to bat and they soon found themselves in trouble at 12-3 after five overs, losing all three wickets with the score on 12.

First to go was Craig Crowe bowled Alex Ashwin for 10.

Then Assan Pathan was caught Ashwin, bowled Danny Dumford, for two.

Captain Rag Sen came in and was bowled by Ashwin for a duck.

Hinckley’s fortunes took a turn for the better with a fourth wicket stand of 52 between Avish Patel and Janack Valand.

Patel went with the score on 64 lbw to Scott Green.

Valand remained at the crease until he was caught Bennett, bowled Dumford, for 45 with the score on 103-7.

Because of rain interruptions the game was reduced to 42 overs per side.

Following Valand’s departure, Hinckley were only able to add a further seven runs for their final three wickets and were all out for 110 after 41.2 overs.

Tea was taken during which time Pinto Patel arrived meaning Hinckley had 10 men for the rest of the game.

Uppingham’s openers Dumford and Farnsworth put on 36 for the first wicket when Dumford was caught Vandam Shah bowled Pinto Patel for 19. Then at 4.24 the rain came again. After a lot of work on the ground play resumed at 5.45 meaning Uppingham at to get 75 runs in 13 overs.

Which they did with ease reaching their target after 14.5 overs with some big hitting from Ben Farnsworth who remained 72 not out and Mark Cox 10 not out.

Hinckley only picked up one point from the match which mean they finish a disappointing seventh in league one.
