Hinckley golfer in front of the camera
WOLVEY golfer, Chris Brook put in a fantastic performance taking on the UK’s best amateur golfers narrowly missing out on winning the national title at the inaugural American Golf Scratch Championship.
The 29-year-old eventually took third place at fourtime Ryder Cup venue the Belfry after three rounds across two days.
The conditions on the course were extremely challenging, worsening throughout the day and forcing errors as Chris said: “I played well in the first round, but I had three bad bogeys and kept missing it in the wrong positions.
“The conditions were tough in the afternoon of the first day but I just hit some shocking golf shots.
“I played a bit better and shot 75 but I can still hit the ball a lot better than that.”
Daniel Gathercole, director of marketing and communications at American Golf was delighted with the standard of competition and the golf that Chris produced to take the win.
“We’ve seen some of the UK’s best amateur golfers play incredible golf over the three days,” he said.
“To watch guys like Chris and the other players tread in the footsteps of Ryder Cup players past and see the pleasure they get from the competition on a stage like this is inspiring.
“It’s hugely satisfying and I’m incredibly proud to be a part of the American Golf team that has helped many of these players realise a dream.”
Despite not bringing his A game under the gaze of the Sky Sports cameras, Chris who plays his golf at Hinckley Golf Club, thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
He said: “I said to the camera guys yesterday, to get 54 holes for free round here is unbelievable really.
I couldn’t have asked for the event to be run any better.”
All of the Championship finals will be shown on Sky Sports across October and November.
