Whitewash sees Goons start again where they left off

GOONS have started the new campaign in Division 1 of the Hinckley league where they left off last season.

Their opening fixture saw them overcome Cat B by 10 sets to 0.

Jason Woodfield was man of the match for Goons winning his three but Steve Adams managed to take a game off both John Sjostak and Lucky Obi.

In their next game however George Ward B managed to dent their progress by taking three sets in a seven set to three victory for Goons.

Barlestone A, last season’s runnerup, also won 10 sets to 0 in their first match against George Ward E, Phil Jones leading the way with a maximum.

Young Frankie Hallam the pick of George Ward E by taking Alex Westerby to five games before losing 11-4 in the final game.

Their meeting with Cat A saw the Desford side collect a useful win by six sets to four over Barlestone A.

Alex Mason in fine form for Cat A winning all three of his matches.

Cat A also defeated the Barlestone B side by 20 sets to nil giving them a good start to the new campaign.

Despite a splendid maximum from Mick Allsop, an under strength George Ward B went down by six sets to four to Cat C.

Both Nick Raynor and Andy Spring taking two victories each for Cat.

George Ward A also had a good start to the season defeating Queens Mira by eight sets to two. Jason Essex winning his three for the Barwell side.

George Ward E continue to suffer, this time at the hands of their own A team losing by nine sets to one.

Queen’s Mira overcame Cat D to in by seven sets to three.

In the recent Cadet and Junior County trials Hinckley players did exceptiona­lly well in most of the categories Junior boys saw Matt Wynne ranked sixth. County Number 1 is Jack Rogers of Leicester.

In the Cadet boys Edward Brown is ranked two, Oliver Wynne at three, James Walker at four with Bevan Wale at nine and George Moore at 11. The number 1 ranked player is Oscar Bentley (Leics).

In the County Girls Frankie Hallam is number one, Alana Richardson is three and Freya Wynne is sixth.

All play in the Hinckley league for the George Ward Club.
