Have say on proposals to slash school transport
HINCKLEY residents are urged to have their say on proposed cutbacks to school transport across the county.
A consultation has been launched by Leicestershire County Council to get the public’s views on the proposed changes.
Proposals include reducing the discount available to students from low-income families with children at specialist nurseries.
It is also proposed to stop council-arranged taxi and minibus provision to transport SEN (Special Educational Needs) students to post-16 education, providing direct financial support instead.
Transport to post-16 education for eligible mainstream post-16 students may also be axed in the shake up.
Rising SEN transport costs, increasing 42 per cent over the last five years, led to the need for cutbacks for the cash-strapped authority.
A public consultation event is also going on in Hinckley, at Dorothy Goodman School Hall, in Stoke Road.
This will be taking place on Monday October 9, at 6.30pm.
The deadline for consultation submissions is December 21.
Fill on the consultation online on the Leicestershire County Council website, or request a paper copy by calling 0116 305 0002 or email passengertransport@ leics.gov.uk.
