Students raise cancer cash

-

A TEN-YEAR-OLD dancer from Burbage has raised funds to support cancer sufferers after her ‘inspirational’ dance instructor was diagnosed with the disease earlier this year.

Olivia Bevington, a student at the Vicky-Anne Dance and Drama Academy, has been dancing since the age of two, and decided she wanted to raise money to support Vicky-Anne Martin, who was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in March.

Vicky-Anne is also the much-loved principal of the popular dance school.

Olivia decided to pull on her dancing shoes to help by doing a two hour sponsored dance at the academy earlier this month.

Eighteen other students from the academy also joined Olivia, with both friends and family sponsoring them.

The talented students have so far raised £1,140 for Lymphoma Awareness, although money is still coming in.

Olivia said: “Miss Vicky is an inspiration to me and I wanted to do something to help her and others that are fighting with Lymphoma as she has helped me with my dancing, singing and helping me go towards my ambition to be on stage in the West End.

“The academy is not just a dancing school, it’s a place where people support each other.”

Vicky-Anne said: “I am so proud of Olivia for organising it and wanting to help others. I am totally blown away with pupils’ support and generosity.

“Since my diagnosis, which was a total shock, I’ve found much strength from the kindness and love we have as a ‘dance’ family.

“It’s so amazing that the children have raised so much and it will go towards research and helping others with Lymphoma.”
