SCIENCE confirms the Bible. This may seem like a strange thing to say, for many prefer one or the other. But it is interesting as the Bible is read, things were written hundreds of years before science came to the same conclusions, lets look at one or two.

In Genesis 6, the first book of the Bible we have an account of a man of great faith called Noah. He was asked by God to build an ark, because a flood was coming. He no doubt was ridiculed for building the ark during a dry period, but he acted in faith. God gave him the dimensions for the ark. God said it needed to be 450ft (138m) long and 75ft (23m) wide. Which means a ratio of 6:1, six times longer than it was wide. In 1609 in Holland a ship was built in the same proportions as the ark, by the 1900s every big ship was built with the same ratio 6:1 for it thought to be the most stable for big ships. Yet the dimensions spoke of were given to Noah thousands of years ago.

Job, noted for his patience in his book, ch.26 v7 he said God ‘hangs the earth on nothing’, we need to remember Job was written some 1,500 years before Christ’s birth and science in 1650AD discovered that it did hang on nothing.

Again in Isaiah ch40v22 we read ‘God sits above the circle of the earth’ this was written some 700 years before Jesus was born and some 300 years before Aristotle wrote in his On The Heavens that he thought the world may be a sphere. It was around another 2,000 years before Christopher Columbus who being inspired by the Bible decided to sail around the world at a time when science still believed the world was flat.

What is also interesting is Matthew Fontaine Maury who is called the father of modern oceanology and naval meteorology was inspired by Psalm 8v8 that spoke of fish etc swimming the ocean currents and what Matthew discovered was warm and cold ocean currents.

What about the water cycle? Billions of gallons of water are poured into the sea all over the world, where does it all go? The Bible some 3,000 years ago describes what happens, the cycle of water. Ecclesiastes 1v7, 11v3, Amos 9:6 speak of water been taken up and then falling as rain, this water cycle wasn’t understood by science until around the 16-17th century, a couple of thousand years before people like Pierre Perrault (died 1608) made the discovery of the water cycle.

These facts are interesting and along with archeology show many things in the Bible are true, not that the Bible needs science to prove it is true, it is true because it is God’s Word.
