Gift to Lift boost from sponsored cycle ride

-

A CHARITY bike ride to Blackpool has raised around £2,500 for a Hinckley charity.

Claire Colkin and a group of friends embarked on the trip in aid of A Gift to Lift, the charity set up by Alex Hopwood while she was undergoing treatment for leukaemia.

The venture helps bring joy to blood cancer patients by providing gifts and treats and since Alex’s death in 2014 has been continued by her mother Jacky and close friends.

A former colleague of Alex’s at Priesthills Nursery, Claire has been committed to supporting A Gift to Lift for the past three years.

Previous challenges have involved cycling to Brighton and Skegness with Blackpool being the destination of choice this time around.

Claire, 39, from Burbage, said: “I used to work with Alex and she was just an amazing girl. The sponsored bike ride started off three years ago and has become a bit of a group thing with more joining in each time.

“I go out cycling most weekends and really enjoy it. The challenges are a bit of fun and we always have a bunch of people waiting for us at the end, this time we all met at the Pleasure Beach.”

Claire and her team attracted sponsorship from a host of businesses and set up a Just Giving page to garner donations.

The page remains open if anyone would like to add to the total.
