FREEMASONS from three Hinckley Lodges scaled the three highest peaks in the UK to raise money for two good causes.

A team of ten climbers and two drivers, all members of Lodges based at Hinckley Masonic Hall on St Mary’s Road, took part in the National Three Peaks Challenge for charity.

Their test was to scale the highest peaks in England, Scotland and Wales - which are the highest in the union - within 24 hours.

Starting with Ben Nevis in Scotland, then Scafell Pike in England and finally Snowdon in Wales, they completed the gruelling 26-mile hike in 23 hours 15 minutes - an impressive 45 minutes ahead of the deadline.

Sponsored for the effort, the team aims to raise a total of £5,000 to be shared between two causes.

Hinckley Homeless Group, which runs Lawrence House hostel for homeless young people, will benefit from half the amount with the other half going towards Leicester and Rutland 2022 Festival, a charitable endeavour run by the Province of Leicestershire and Rutland Freemasons.

The Festival aims to generate the equivalent of £600 per Lodge member, to be given to causes countywide.

Hinckley team co-ordinator David Fell said: “It was a great effort by a great team who under extreme conditions worked hard and gave the commitment to make it succeed.”

Mr Fell was joined by Richard Danks, Darren Houghton, Vernon Ward, Richard Beaumont, Jonathan Lewis, Michael Kennedy, Nik Whysall, Jonathan Hubbard, Nick Sherwin and James Humphrey with driver Will Ferrell joining them en-route

The team members represent Hinckley’s Knights of Malta Lodge No.50, Burbach Lodge No.8699 and the Lodge of St Simon and St Jude No.8729.

Donations may still be made to the team via the link https://goo.gl/ w4dd3Z which recorded £2,928.68 as having been pledged towards the team’s £5,000 target at the time of writing.
