Classic tunes with a twist

-

AN ACOUSTIC trio will be bringing their unconventional style of music to delight the ears of the audience at Bagworth Community Centre.

The Andy Lawrenson Trio with their Gypsy Jazz Celebration are booked in for Saturday October 7 and will be performing from 7.30pm.

Having worked with the likes of Elvis Costello, Richard Thomson and Tim Garland the band boast a rich heritage and are described as a mustsee for acoustic roots music fans.

They will combine the unique gypsy jazz sounds with timeless tunes from the great composers of old including George Gershwin, Cole Porter and Irving Berlin, whose songs for stage and screen are a classic canon of musical works from the 1920s to the 1950s.

A spokesman said: “The gypsy jazz experience is a stylish, humorous and very entertaining portrayal of a style of music originally pioneered by Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli in 1930s Paris.

“The distinctive style is instantly recognisable - acoustic, up-tempo, alternately joyous, exotic, passionate and full of pathos.

“The Andy Lawrenson Trio mix the instrumental style with songs from the Great American Songbook, blending style, flair and astonishing dexterity and plenty of interaction to produce a show to warm the hearts and entertain any audience.”

Tickets are available at £9 for adults and £7 for children to include a cheese and pate supper. For details contact Rosemary on 01530 230347.
