Plenty of things to do this October
ALTHOUGH the days are drawing in and growing ever colder, there is still plenty to do in Hinckley this October.
Book lovers can celebrate with Hinckley Library for National Libraries Week, while the muchanticipated model railway show rolls into town again.
There will also be plenty of spooktacular surprises in store as Hinckley approaches Halloween… don’t say we didn’t warn you!

Monday October 2 to Saturday October 7, Concordia Theatre,
Musical: Gypsy The talented and musical Tinhatters present the spectacular “Gypsy”, loosely based on the true life of legendary burlesque dancer, Gypsy Rose Lee. The musical tells the tale of Momma Rose and her two daughters, Baby June and Louise, as they trek across America in their family vaudeville act. But times are a-changing, audiences are expecting more, and the two girl have their own ambitions in mind. Tickets start at £10 and can be ordered by calling Chris Clarke on Hinckley 610010.
Wednesday October 4, St Mary’s Church, 1pm, Lunchtime Concert Lend your ears and get swept away by the beautiful sounds of pianist Kasia Skupien as she entertains audiences for the lunchtime concert. Tickets cost £4 for adults and £1 for children.
Monday October 9 to October 14, Hinckley Library
Libraries Week Book lovers are invited to take part in a week-long national celebration of libraries.
Events in Hinckley will include the launch of a carer’s coffee morning on Monday October 9 from 10.30amnoon, and a health and wellbeing event on Tuesday October 10 from 10am-12.30pm. There will also be a digital drop-in to support those looking to build on IT skills on Wednesday October 11 from 10am4pm, and a coffee morning with library assistants on Friday October 13 from 10am-noon. Thursday October 12 - Saturday October 14, Concordia Theatre, Opera The Stanley Opera present the spectacular “Opera Project”, giving audiences the chance to listen to two of Puccini’s one-act operas, performed as a double bill or individually. Saturday October 14, Holy Trinity Church, 7.30pm, Classical Music Hinckley Music Club presents the beautiful sounds of Luke Jones on piano. Tickets are purchased on the door and cost £12 for adults, £5 for students, and children go free.
Saturday October 14, Hinckley Library, 10.30am-noon, Lego Construction Club The ever-popular Lego Construction Club will be back to entertain creative kids, with this month’s session held for free in celebration of Libraries Week. There will also be a prize up for grabs, so be sure to bring your most artistic flair!
Thursday October 19, The Atkins Building Café, 7.30pm, Talk Budding historians and culture lovers are being invited to a Hinckley and District Museum talk by Mary Matts on “Canal life, traditions and painting.” The talk is free with a 2017 membership card, or £3 for nonmembers. Friday October 20, Hinckley Library, noon-1pm, Talk Learn more about Leicestershire’s heritage and customs during this talk about the county’s Folk Customs by Douglas Clinton. Tickets are £3 per library member, or £4.50 per non-member.
