Sunday League teams face off in the first round of the County Cup contest

-

IT WAS County Cup weekend for the Premier Division teams and two of those teams clashed in the Sunday Premier Cup.

Sporting Dynamo had much the better of the first half and deservedly led their game at Enderby Social 1-0 at the break.

Enderby came out strongly for the second half and equalised when Kriggy Barker bulleted home a header from a Tom Marrs corner.

Ben Reynolds was then fouled by the Sporting keeper after a poor back pass and Tom Marrs put Enderby ahead from the spot.

Enderby were then reduced to ten men on the hour and Sporting dominated the rest of the game and eventually ran out 3-2 winners.

Other Hinckley sides were less successful with FC Topps going down 6-0 against Quorn Royals, Rogue Elite losing by the odd goal in seven at Sports Bar Ansty Swifts and FC Bacc losing 4-2 at home to Huncote.

In the PWS Division One, Athletico Duke travelled to Anchor Inn and took the points from a 5-2 win. Liam Brody led the way with a hat-trick with the other goals coming from Tom Nichols and Nick Grimshaw.

The wins sees Athletico take the top spot after a couple of games.

In the County Cup, Hinckley sides had mixed fortunes.

Ullesthorpe won through after winning 3-2 at home to Friar Lane with Ryan Brightmore, Tom Merry and Ross Weston scoring the goals.

Stanton United Old Boys also progressed after beating Hi Chrome United 5-1. Cal Needham, Lew Dunkley, Lew Poulter and a brace from Kyle Olner giving them their win.

Thurlaston Magpies went down to a narrow 4-3 defeat at Verdon Athletic while Sporting Dynamo Reserves were soundly beaten 11-0 by LDA Spartans.

Teams from the The Printing Works Division Two were also involved in County Competitions and pride of place goes to AFC Barn who entertained Cutting Room 2010 and ended up 9-1 winners.

Stanton United Reserves went down to a heavy defeat at Niffy Rangers with their consolation goals coming from Tom Macey and Josh Atkinson in a 10-2 defeat.

The Holywell once again found themselves 2-0 down after around 20 minutes in their game against AFC Andrews, after they couldn’t clear their lines.

They managed to get back into the game after 30 minutes when Craig Brightfield, opened his account for the season after a corner wasn’t cleared by the hosts and Brightfield from just inside the box, placed it perfectly in the top left corner to go into the break 2-1 down.

Despite starting the second half well, it was the hosts who extended their lead with a 20 yard strike.

Holywell then failed to clear a corner and soon found themselves 4-1 down.

They pulled one back after a long kick out of the keepers hands bounced over the hosts defence and last season’s top goal scorer, Chris Borber chased it down and lobbed it over the oncoming keeper’s head from 18 yards.

Holywell then missed two golden chances to get level, first from Chris Wackington, who, from eight yards out and with the goal gaping, fired over the bar. Chris Borber then looked like he was about to score but hit the keeper with his shot.

The hosts quickly made it 5-2 with a cross shot the keeper should have done better with and soon it was 6-2 from a ball over the top, which was just guided home for the home side.

Holywell did grab another back through Scott Madwell to make it 6-3 with around 10 minutes to go.

The final goal for the hosts, and the pick of a bunch, a 25-yard belter which came off the underside of the bar and post to wrap up it up 7-3.

An Aaron Moore hat-trick and Jamie Brewin goal wasn’t enough to save Stoneycroft United from suffering a 7-4 defeat to a strong Measham Imperials team in the County Cup.

Moore’s hat-trick made it five goals in two games and he duly got the Man of the Match award.

TC Building lost 11-7 at Castle Donington with Daniel Toone (four), Nathan Hall (two) and Corey Simmons on the score sheet.

Shilton United lost after extra time and penalties after a 4-4 draw with Markfield Rangers OB.

Matthew Bown, Brandon Brine, Alex Field and Ben Harding their scorers.

In the all-Hinckley tie, Stoke Golding got the better of the Gravity with a 4-2 win.

Scorers were Danny Wilson with a hat-trick and Kaine Finch.
