Market Bosworth beat old rivals

-

THE visitors this weekend were Stewarts and Lloyds from Corby who Market Bosworth used to play on the first Saturday of every season before the leagues were introduced.

Within seconds from the kick off Market Bosworth were three points up with a successful penalty kick from the boot of Rich Harris, returning for his first game of the season.

Play continued in the opposition half for several minutes allowing Bosworth’s flanker, Harry Parkes, to run in the first try of the game in the corner. Harris was unable to convert the difficult kick.

Bosworth kept the pressure on and came close to scoring several times and presenting them with a couple of penalty attempts, one of which Harris secured.

Stewarts and Lloyds put Bosworth under pressure for a while getting close to the Bosworth line only to spill the ball to be cleared by Joe Randon.

A sort of tennis match ensued with both teams putting in long kicks which were caught and returned with great skill however it was Bosworth who eventually gained the advantage by retrieving a kick ahead for Lewis Brightmore to give the pass out to Harry Parkes to go over under the posts for his second try, converted by Rich Harris.

Bosworth continued to play some good exhibition rugby resulting in a couple more tries and a bonus point before half time both scored by Ricky Wickwar bringing the tally up to 28-0.

The heavens opened at the start of the second half and now playing downhill it was Stewarts and Lloyds who adapted to the conditions and using their much heavier pack were able to get close to the Bosworth line winning a scrum for the number eight to dive over under the posts giving their kicker an easy conversion.

A Bosworth forward was yellow carded shortly after in his attempt to prevent another try and this gave even more weight advantage to the visitors who repeated the previous move to add another seven points to their score and going over again shortly afterwards but this time in the corner for five more points.

With Bosworth back to full strength they secured the ball from the restart and developed a maul enabling Ricky Wickwar to dive over for his hat trick.

With the clock ticking away hooker Jack McWhirter heeled against the head in midfield enabling a couple of clean passes to go out and eventually letting Rich Harris go over to add to his points tally.

Final score: Market Bosworth 38 - 19 Stewarts and Lloyds.
