Hinckley youngsters’ amazing 91-0 win

-

AN injury-hit squad wasn’t enough to slow down Hinckley RFC’s under-14s as they steamrollered their way to an emphatic 91-0 win against Syston RFC.

Hinckley under-14s made the relatively short journey to Syston RFC with five players being ruled out through injury.

Hinckley kicked off the first half, immediately forcing a turnover through a crunching Barnes tackle.

Allen then made a clean break before offloading to Moore in support, who found Fountaine on his right shoulder to take the pass and run in Hinck- ley’s first try of 15 try’s within the opening two minutes.

The conversion sailed wide but Hinckley had an early 5-0 lead.

Syston kicked back to Hinckley at the re-start, Allen taking the catch and showing superb footwork to dance his way through the defence to score Hinckley’s second try, which Drakeford converted to extend the visitor’s lead to 12-0.

This set the scene for the rest of the match, as from the re-start runs from Barnes, Toon, Hurley-Smith and Moore took Hinckley back up to the Syston 22-metre line before L Whittingham put in an excellent tackle for the opposition.

Syston tried to attack Hinckley with their first spell of possession, but were met by solid tackles from Hutton, Allen, Moore, Fountaine and Salisbury in midfield.

Hinckley counterattacked from a scrum on the halfway line with Allen, Drakeford and Buckler all making notable breaks.

The ball was recycled and shipped out from Wainde to Moore, who had Drakeford in support to take the pass and score Hinckley’s third try.

During the 50 minutes of junior rugby there were tries from Jack Burton, Thomas Allen (three), Joseph Barnes (two), Sam Jacques (two), Ben Moore (three), Sam Toon, Ben Drakeford (two) and Frankie Fountaine.

Hinckley under-14s are now four wins from four.

They are looking forward to the next round of the County Cup against South Leicester on Sunday December 10 with matches against Oadby Wyggs, Kettering, Market Harborough, Leamington, Cannock and Stourbridge before that.
