WADE ON WATER with Richard Wade

-

THERE was more mid week success for Alan Grewcock as he won Higham Lane’s Thursday Open match for the second successive week.

The win looked unlikely as with around an hour left Alan only had one small carp in the net.

But a change to fishing in the margins produced a hectic last hour as he landed some big fish to finish with a match winning 76lb 11oz catch.

Andy Stewart used waggler tactics to land 64lb 9ozs for second place with Dave Ale finishing third with a 53lb 9oz catch.

Doug Dimbleby has an almost unbeatable lead in the Pete Hogg Memorial Series after the seventh round fished along the Globe section at Snarestone.

Doug netted two bream and a dozen small fish to win with a 3lb 6oz total.

There was a tie for second place between John Gamble who caught small roach and Hubert Noar who landed a single zander, both catches weighed 1lb 10ozs.

It was back to winning ways for Jim Spradbury who took the honours in Saturday’s Higham Lane Open match.

Drawn on peg 13 Jim switched between pole and feeder tactics to catch a winning 74lb 8ozs of carp. John Varley used a pellet feeder to land 70lb 1ozs of carp for second place with Andy Findley finishing third with 59lb 11ozs.

Plough Angling Club’s members contest on the river Avon at Ryton was won by new member Steve Wilson who had never fished the length before. Drawn on peg 43 Steve landed small chub, dace and roach to weigh 4lb 14ozs. Mick Durrant came second with 3lb 4ozs while Mark Chinn came third with 2lb 12ozs.

Only Mick Bassett could come up with carp and silver fish matches within a match. Saturday’s Open match at Mill on the Soar gave anglers the choice of fishing for silvers, carp or both with prizes for both.

Top carp catch and winner of the match was Lee Marlow, who was really the only angler who fished for carp to finish with 54lb 3ozs from peg 31. Top catch of silver fish was made by Kev Folwell who weighed 16lb 9ozs. Jake King weighed 12lb 15ozs for second with Micky Bassett third with 12lb 6ozs.
