Close matches served up in latest round of table tennis fixtures

THE latest round of matches in Division 1 of the Hinckley Table Tennis League served up number of very close matches.

Barlestone B just lost to George Ward B in a close encounter with no fewer than eight sets going to either four or five games.

After six sets the scores were level at three each but GWB forged ahead with wins by Danny Whittaker and Clive Stretton taking the match to five sets to three.

Bob Dale pulled one back for Barle- stone B before the win was secured by GWB taking the doubles for a six sets to four win. Clive Stretton was man of the match winning his three.

Cat B also had a very close match with Queen’s Mira also running out winners by six sets to four despite a Dave Daniels maximum for Queen’s.

Cat D and George Ward E fought out a tight draw with seven sets going to either four or five games, the Barwell side led five sets to three but Cat D hit back with wins by Chris Sherwin and the doubles to level the scores to five each.

Dave Richardson ( GWE) with three wins and Frankie Hallam (GWE) with two and for Cat Sherwin also had two wins.

In another very close match rivals Cat A snatched a six sets to four victory away to George Ward A. This despite a Jason Essex maximum for GWA.

Spare a thought for Mark Perkins (GWA) all three of his matches went to five sets and on each occasion he lost out 11-13, 7-11 and 8-11. Not his night.

In their next match however GWA made amends by taking a six set to four win over Cat C.

This time Perkins was on song winning his three with one each from Derek Thomson and Leigh Morris. Nick Raynor collecting two wins for Cat C.

This was the second defeat in a week for Cat C having already lost at Barlestone A by two sets to eight
