Bor­ough’s sport­ing he­roes will be hon­oured

UNSUNG he­roes who go that ex­tra mile to sup­port sport­ing ac­tiv­ity will be cel­e­brated thanks to an an­nual awards com­pe­ti­tion.

Nom­i­na­tions are be­ing re­quested as part of the Hinck­ley and Bos­worth Sport and Health Al­liance (HBSHA) 2017 con­test.

Now in its 11th year the ven­ture seeks to re­ward or­di­nary peo­ple who have ex­celled within their sport of choice, have helped oth­ers to achieve, or has turned their life around for the bet­ter through sport­ing ac­tiv­ity.

Cat­e­gories fea­ture gongs for coaches, clubs, dis­abled ath­letes, vol­un­teers, ju­niors and school­child­ren and unsung he­roes. New for this year is an ‘ac­tive busi­ness’ award.

Ex­ec­u­tive mem­ber for cul­ture, sport and leisure at the bor­ough coun­cil, Coun­cil­lor Mau­reen Cook said: “Hav­ing seen at first­hand some of the young peo­ple rep­re­sent­ing our bor­ough dur­ing the last year, I am more than aware of the com­mit­ment, en­thu­si­asm and ca­ma­raderie which ben­e­fits our com­mu­nity from coaches, or­gan­is­ers, par­tic­i­pants and vol­un­tary or­gan­i­sa­tions. I am de­lighted to sup­port the Awards and I urge you to nom­i­nate your hero be­fore October 30.”
