Author is on the rise again with new book

-

A NOVELIST from Desford has published a new book.

To Rise Again, the sixth book by author Stewart Bint, is set on the island of Jersey, at the end of the Second World War, in 1945.

It blends fantasy, science fiction, horror and the paranormal, as threads from 1945 and 1983 gradually intermingle to reveal a world on the brink of ruin.

Mr Bint, 61, got the idea for the novel when he visited an underground hospital on Jersey during his honeymoon, in 1982.

This is the first of his works to be published by Creativia, while his other works have been published by Dragon Moon Press.

Inspiration for his novels can come from anywhere and at any time, such as a walk in Cranford Park in London, reading an article about Chernobyl, or a personal encounter with the supernatural.

Mr Bint became enthralled with the idea of writing fiction from watching the original Doctor Who series, in 1963, at the age of seven.

He said: “I became enraptured by the storylines which could take place at any time in Earth’s history and future, and absolutely anywhere in the universe and beyond.

“I started creating my own worlds and my own characters, writing my stories in little blue notebooks until my parents bought me a portable typewriter for my ninth birthday.”

The writer’s makebelieve worlds became an even more important source of inspiration when his dad died, when he was 11.

He added: “I retreated more and more into those places where I was in control of my characters’ fate – knowing that whatever happened to them during the story I would make sure they were okay in the end.

“My worlds were certainly better than the real one at that time.

“I know my work is not great literature, but my readers tell me it’s extremely entertaining, and describe me as a genuine storyteller.”

Mr Bint published his first novella in 2012, when he was 56.

He also works as a magazine columnist and PR writer, and formerly was a radio presenter, newsreader and phone-in show host.

He and his wife Sue have two grown-up children, Christopher and Charlotte.
