A QUESTION OF FAITH

-

With Rev Malcolm Clarke The Vine Christian Book and Coffee shop in The Borough Hinckley I was very privileged earlier this week to watch the gifted young drama group `Alter Ego` showcasing the presentation that they are taking to various Leicestershire schools, highlighting the dangers of being radicalised, pushed to the extremes whether by religious or secular agencies. So grateful that there are those carrying the message to our rising generations.

And it made me more all the more grateful for the everyday values I and perhaps we are in danger of taking for granted. Because there is nothing spectacular about them they rarely hit the headlines. But they are the stuff of good Community.

I write these days as The Chair of The Vine Trustees, and I am proud to do so. But what if anything do you know about The Vine? Just where Regent Street becomes The Borough, that’s where to find the drive, with Hinckley Shoe Repair Specialists on one side and The Church in The Borough (Hinckley United Reformed Church) on the other , that leads up to The Vine. The Rochelle School of Dance uses the same entrance and they practice and perform upstairs whilst we in The Vine are downstairs.

We offer hot and cold drinks, and snacks, and lunches, opening at 10am and closing at 4pm everyday though on a Saturday we open at 9am and close at 3pm. Find us on Facebook, and sign up to be notified of the latest events and happenings.

The Vine’s Mission Statement is “The Vine seeks to make the love of Jesus known and shown in Hinckley through resourcing the Church, creating Community and sharing joy and fellowship”. Paul is our Manager, Mike his assistant and Lesley `looks after the books`. Our team of volunteers and Trustees, our friends of The Vine, and our prayer supporters keep the show on the road.

The `Alter Ego` drama brought home that it is for want of positive messages and input, of an experience of being valued for who you are, of a listening ear and a conducive atmosphere of peace, and hope, that enmity and division finds a breeding ground. But you will find no lack of these positives in The Vine. Come see for yourself.

Advent is on its way! We are getting ready again to celebrate the arrival of The Prince of Peace! Come and share with us soon. We will make you very welcome.
