SURE Start in Hinckley is launching the 2017 Christmas Appeal.

The advice centre, in Rosemary Way, is teaming up with Hinckley Foodbank and Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council to run the appeal. The Hinckley Times will also be supporting the initiative.

The appeal was launched at St Simon and St Jude’s Church in Earl Shilton, with the mayor of the borough council, Ozzy O’Shea.

Jennie Wroe, children’s centre coordinator at Sure Start, said: “With increasing numbers of families relying on foodbanks and community support, we know that the appeal is needed more than ever.

“This is the seventh year we have led the appeal and we’re delighted to be back working again with our partners to make it as successful as possible.

“We are also so grateful to the kind-hearted residents of Hinckley and Bosworth who make such generous donations every single year; we simply could not do it without that support.”

Donation bins, decorated with tinsel and wrapping paper, are in place around the borough, until the end of November.

People can donate new toys, for children up to 16, dried food stuffs, tinned food and toiletries, which can be boxed into a hamper.

Every single item will be passed on to families or elderly people who live locally. Last year’s appeal provided toys for more than 300 children to unwrap at Christmas.

Dozens of families in the borough also received food parcels, thanks to the generosity of doners.

Donation bins can be found at Morrisons Hinckley in Normandy Way, Asda Hinckley in Barwell Lane, Tesco Hinckley in Station Road, Woodlands Wyevale Garden Centre in Ashby Road and Hinckley Hub in Rugby Road.

School in the area with bins include Westfield Infant School in Ashford Road, Barwell Academy in High Street, St Bernard’s Nursery in Clarendon Road, Windmill Day Nursery in Wheatfield Way, Burbage Day Nursery in Hinckley Road.

Hinckley and Rugby Building Society in Castle Street and Hinckley Library in Lancaster Road also have a bin.
