Pub apple pressing will produce unique brew

-

CUSTOMERS at compact but characterful micro pub the Elbow Room are being treated to a special cidermaking demonstration.

Rob Clough from the Loughborough based Charnwood Cider company will be bringing his fully restored “small” cider press to the Station Road hostelry on Friday October 20.

The idea is that patrons pop along with their own apples for Rob to press and the juice produced will be fermented into a unique cider ready for drinking next spring.

Rob is visiting various outlets that stock his wares to demonstrate how easy and fun it is to create super cider.

Tim Arnold, who runs Elbow Room - set to celebrate its second anniversary in November - said: “We have been buying Rob’s excellent Charnwood Cider for quite some time so we gladly agreed to take part in his cider-making tour. It was Rob’s idea to promote cider by showing people how to make it and by engaging the local community to provide apples for the cider. That way when the cider is ready in spring 2018 we will be able to serve cider made in Elbow Room using local apples.”

Anyone can visit to watch the demonstration from 2pm and customers are more than welcome to bring along some apples for pressing.

Specific cider apples are best but definitely not cooking apples as they are too tart.

Around 120kg of apples will make 60 litres for next spring’s special blend cider at Elbow Room.
