Dance studio boss can’t wait for the next 12 months

-

A HINCKLEY dance studio was delighted to reach its fourth anniversary.

Mys2dio is celebrating four years since it moved into its current venue on George Street, into what was the Bamboo Gardens restaurant.

Lynn Elkington, owner of the studio, said it has gone from strength to strength over the last four years.

She said: “There have been so many highlights, with members getting the all clear from cancer, new babies being born, and we have raised tens of thousands of pounds for various charities.

“I’ve also reached the final of the Pride of Hinckley awards and been given the honour of leading Burbage Carnival annually.”

The studio has developed a full timetable of classes, with new members joining daily.

Dance professional and Strictly Come Dancing star Robin Windsor began taking occasional classes there this year, with amateur dancers enjoying two sessions with him already, and another arranged for this month.

Ms Elkington said: “I’ve been so busy this year, that to be honest I forgot it’s been four years.

“The studio has been so successful, I’ve had to convert the back room into a small studio for wedding choreography and private lessons.

“I could do with another identical studio built next door.”

Ms Elkington started teaching latin dance classes in 2010, working in school and village halls and the old Hinckley leisure centre.

Growing numbers meant that after 18 months a studio was needed, and after outgrowing the first one, the group was able to move into the George Street venue, with the official launch in October 2013.

Among its more recent achievements, the dance studio hosted a Macmillan coffee morning last month, where it raised more than £280 for the cancer support charity.

Ms Elkington is already excited for what lies ahead.

She said: “This time next year I will be hosting a very big fifth year bash at Mys2dio.

“I will also be holding an event to go back in time and revisit Bamboo Gardens, with a Chinese-themed evening.

“I have a fire in my belly for what the next year will bring.”

In addition to its various dance classes, the studio also has a licensed function room it rents out.
