Hinckley RFC U14s record 59-0 Worcester whitewash

-

THE last time Hinckley played this opposition the result didn’t exactly go their way, so when Worcester RFC were confirmed as a replacement fixture the Black and Ambers were looking forward to the opportunity to seek revenge, despite a slightly depleted squad due to injury and availability.

Worcester kicked off on Hinckley’s stadium pitch in front of a lively home crowd.

The ball went straight to Jacques, who made an immediate impact taking Hinckley into their opposition’s 22 with a powerful run.

Further breaks from Giles and Underwood took them deeper into Worcester territory.

Hinckley were awarded a penalty from which Drakeford made a darting break before popping to Burton who bulldozed over for the opening try of the game.

Drakeford converted to give the home team an early 7-0 lead.

Hinckley came straight back at Worcester following the re-start, Miller catching the high ball and combining well with Wainde to make good ground.

Worcester turned over the ball and launched their first counter-attack, but tackles from Drakeford and Moore in midfield kept them at bay.

Hinckley stole the ball from a Worcester lineout, which Buckler got hold of, and like a gazelle in the Serengeti, burst through the Worcester defence from to score a superb try. Drakeford split the uprights again and Hinckley’s lead was extended to 14-0. The first half finished 28 – 0. Hinckley kicked off the second half and immediately went back on the offensive,

Barnes picking up from a scrum and making a clean break before passing to Smith who rounded Worcester’s defensive line to touch down in the corner.

Hinckley scored their sixth try following the restart, Barnes making another break after winning a scrum against the head and passing to Drakeford in support who darted over for his hat-trick.

The conversion narrowly missed taking the score to 40-0.

Worcester re-started and kicked deep into Hinckley territory, only to find Jacques who set off from his own try-line and powered through almost the entire Worcester team to score a superb solo try under the posts.

The conversion was missed but the score line had increased to 45-0.

Worcester looked down and nearly out, and were soon to go further behind as Salisbury caught the ball from the re-start and made anoth- er darting break.

Further runs and sublime handling from Buckler, Hurley-Smith and L Whittingham took the home side up to Worcester’s 22m line.

Jacques took the final pass and burst through the desolate Worcester defence to score his second try, which Toon successfully converted.

The referee and Worcester coaches decided this was enough punishment for one day, and with one last and very loud blow on his shiny new whistle called an end to the game some ten minutes early.

Hinckley Under 14s had put in another dominant performance and found sweet revenge for last year’s defeat with an emphatic win.

Final score Hinckley 59 - 0 Worcester with tries from Burton, Buckler, Drakeford (4), Jacques (2).

The squad can now enjoy a well-earned halfterm rest before next week’s fixture at home to Kettering.
