Hinckley A team Vs Ernesford AAway. Playing their second game of the season was a Fantastic win under their belts. With new defence of Nicola Coulson, Kate Chamberlain, and Jess Rainbow they played outstanding and communicating with one another.

The Ernesford attack broke down only scoring 10 goals by first and second quarter. With the defence bringing it down the court to the attackers meant the movement around the centre third, feeds in and around the circle edge to the shooters Carmen Whitaker and Carole Payne by Bex Oldfield and Ashley Oakes was on point. It took a few minutes to break into the first few quarters but with constancy and determination The A Team pulled through with a lead of 5 goals. Going into the last quarter, with energy running low, the team never stopped fighting.

With Ashley Oakes getting an injury to her finger causing her to come off, super sub Holly Hemsley was brought on which meant rearranging the team. With self-control Hinckley A won the game leaving the score 42-32. Player of the match goes to centre Bex Oldfield.

The Hinckley A-team were in action for a second time this week, this time hosting Rugby Railway who were their fellow promotees this season into division 1.

Hinckley started off with a bang leading the 1st quarter 14-11. Rugby turned over some good balls and played dynamically down court, all of which Hinckley mirrored, turning over a few centres and making the most of a loose ball. Rugby persevered and took a small four goal lead going into half time. With excellent defensive work and play down court from Kate Chamberlain and Jess Rainbow meant that Hinckley could counter on any attacking mistakes Rugby made.

The Rugby GS was shooting from anywhere but with excellent drive and determination Hinckley closed the gap to two goals at the end of the third quarter. Furthermore, the attacking play by Ashleigh Oakes, Carmen Whittaker and Carole Payne was going swimmingly and looked next to perfect.

Unfortunately, it was not enough and in the end after eventually taking the lead on numerous occasions the game finished 45-44 to Rugby. POM Jess Rainbow.

Hinckley C team kicked off the game with a strong start, pulling slightly ahead of the opposition (Offchurch) by the defence winning over several excellent interceptions and the attack using these to our advantage.

They continued to fight throughout the game, with the last quarter showing the team full of fire. They dominated the attacking passes, over-turning the play from Offchurch. The well deserved player of the match went to Emily Harrison, who was also celebrating her birthday on the match day. Despite Hinckley D missing three of their key team members for their away match against Ernesford D, the D and E hybrid team gelled quickly to utilise their strengths.

Play was even during the first quarter with both teams matching each other goal for goal and Hinckley finished ahead 7-6. In the next quarter play continued to be close, with more centre court play, but few goals were scored by both teams this quarter Ernesford took the lead and at half time it was 12-11 in their favour.

During the third quarter Hinckley’s attack struggled to make the most of

boot crashed against the crossbar, but the forward couldn’t convert another chance in what was a poor game of football for the neutral.

The deadlock was broken on 75 minutes, when Warrington substitute Aboubacar Sanogo’s looping cross found it’s way over the goalkeeper and into the net.

Neither side looked like adding to the score sheet and all in attendance were glad to hear the final whistle.

Following the match, Barwell boss Jimmy Ginelly said of the game: “Very poor game of football. I’m sorry to any of the supporters who paid to watch it.

“Both teams looked very tired and washed out, the season is certainly catching up with Barwell now.

“We’ve had this bug in the camp for four of five weeks now and we just can’t seem to shake it off.

“We’re washed out at the moment. There’s nothing we can do about it other than sign a couple of lads.”

Commenting on the lack of consistency Jimmy said: “It’s difficult to justify.

“When we beat Shaw Lane with the their goal scoring opportunities and Ernesford increased their lead.

For the last quarter Hinckley made three changes to their line up switching GD, C and WA and feeds into the circle improved creating more opportunities.

However despite Hinckley’s defence intercepting many balls, GK linking very well with WD and proving essential back up throughout the game they could not do enough to stop the Ernesford shooters.

Hinckley lost the game 20 – 29 disappointed but felt that with some improvements and additional practice they can do better at the return match.

Player of the match went to WD Ede Roche who was consistent throughout the game full of enthusiasm and made some great interceptions.

Hinckley E team won their first match of the season in a tightly fought match against Alvis C, with the final score 26-23. Hinckley E’s kept the lead throughout the game with enthusiasm and energy during every quarter, with their teamwork and match play improving on their previous 2 games. Fingers crossed this is onwards and upwards for the E team! performance that we put in, I think teams are spotting that we’re spoiling good teams’ tactics.

“We’ve spoilt Warrington’s today and turned it into a very scrappy game of football.

“I’m a little bit disappointed that we conceded from a fluked cross, but at the end of the day, they had a little bit more than us today. Out of the two teams, they probably deserved to take the points.”
