Ghost hunt at hotel

DARING souls have the chance to encounter the supernatural this Halloween at Bosworth Hall.

The Grade-II listed hotel is hosting a ghost hunt, with adventurers seeking out the spectre of an unhappy lover who met a gristly end, and investigating doors heard rattling in the night.

Pro ghost hunter and editor of Haunted magazine Paul Stevenson is leading the hunt, organised by Haun7edLIVE.

He said: “It’s a beautiful location and it’s never hosted a ghost hunt before.

“What makes this event unique is that we’re doing it in a working hotel, whereas before our hunts have always been at an empty location.

“One side of the hall will be busy with people while the rest will be locked off for us.”

The investigators into the paranormal will have monitors, which can detect sudden movements and changes in temperature and to the electromagnetic field.

They’ll also be kitted with spirit boxes, which use radio frequencies to contact the ghouls, and computer programme, which is said to allow spirits to manifest by writing words on a screen.

Mr Stevenson said he is especially excited to see the Norfolk Suite, where the ghost of Ann Dixie is said to roam what was once her bedroom, searching for her lost lover.

She lived in the ancestral home of the Dixie family in the 1700s, when her father Sir Wolston Dixie owned the property.

Legend has it she was in love with the gardener’s son, which her father disapproved of, setting traps in the Hall’s grounds to ensnare her suitor.

Ann stumbled on one of the traps but managed to free herself and crawl back to her room, dying in bloody agony a few hours later.

Mr Stevenson said: “It’s said there was that much blood that its seeped through the floor into the ceiling of the room below.

“We have access to that room as well.”

Another spooky spot is the area around the door to the Newgate bar, so named as it was originally the door to a cell in Newgate prison.

Staff say they have heard the door rattling at night, as if someone is trying to open it, yet it is too heavy to be moved just by the wind.

Mr Stevenson said: “When you’re near the bar, you do sense something nasty and depressing.”

He added: “Whether you believe or not, it’s an interesting night.

“Some people who come are believers, while others have been dragged along by their partners.

“I don’t believe 100 per cent in ghosts.

“Things have happened I can’t explain, but it can’t be proved either way.”

Haun7edLIVE is a group of seven who lead ghost hunts in the UK, broadcasting the events live on Facebook.

The Bosworth Hall Hotel ghost hunt is on October 31, from 7pm to midnight.

Tickets are £50, which include refreshments, and can be purchased on the Haun7edLIVE website.
