THE Railway pub in Hinckley is enjoying a fresh look after a £100,000 makeover.

The Steamin’ Billy outlet in Station Road underwent major upgrades, including a new carpet in the lounge area, stripping back and repainting the walls, and new furnishings in the bar.

A new grill and salamander oven were fitted in the kitchen, while much of the leather furniture was cleaned down and moved around.

Another major change was to remove the two doors immediately beyond the entrance door, creating a natural corridor between the bar and lounge.

Steamin’ Billy has only run the pub for a few years, but parts of the previous decor had been there for decades.

Adam Crump, manager of The Railway, said: “We wanted to keep everything that makes the British pub great, but we recognise the need to evolve to fit the needs of our customers.

“It’s been four years since we opened, and the place was starting to get a bit tired.

“We have refreshed everything people know and like about Steamin’ Billy.”

A fresh colour scheme has give the place a cool look, mixing greens, warm browns and cream tones.

New boards and slates for serving steaks have also been added, as 32oz Tomahawk and Chateaubriand steaks are added to the menu.

In addition to the lounge and bar, The Railway has a converted conservatory and a tiled room where the kitchen used to be, for dining and events.

The menu includes pub classics bangers and mash, fish and chips and faggots.

Burgers, steaks and other grilled meats are available, along with healthy options of salads and fish dishes.

Offers include two pie meals for £16 on Wednesdays, and two 5oz steak meals for £16 on Thursdays.

The Railway also has a range of locally sourced ales and ciders on draught, which it rotates regularly.

Room bookings are available for events, which can include catering.
