Referendum vote a right-wing conspiracy

Universal Credit has caused suffering

-

J’ACCUSE! I accuse the anti-EU Ultras in the Tory Party of a conspiracy against the British public.

John Major struggled to resist them but ultimately gave up. Since Major’s demise in the early 1990s, when Hague, Duncan-Smith and Howard - all Eurosceptics - led the party, they have been burrowing away in alliance with their friends in the right-wing press to discredit the EU with lies, lies and more lies.

David Cameron positioned himself as a mild Tory, but this does not seem genuine, considering that he was a member of The Bullenden Club - a group of extremists determined to dismantle the Welfare State and leave the EU. Why did Cameron think it so necessary to allow a referendum on EU membership?

Yes, UKIP had been huffing and puffing and rattling the door and windows in by-elections, but had not enough wind to blow down the house of that - disgraceful - ToryLib Coalition.

Cameron was, I contend, a secret Ultra. His government’s Remain campaign was bland and pathetic in comparison to the bold red-bus cynical propaganda of the Brexit gang of liars. I contend that his blithe resignation speech on the morning after the result when he left the microphone WHISTLING - these people are so arrogant and dismissive of the intelligence of the electorate that they do not consider the impression they create - that his blithe spirit gave the game away.

If Cameron was genuine about remaining in the EU, he would surely have been contrite, depressed and a million notes away from a silly whistle. J’accuse.

I accuse Cameron of cynicism, deceit and contempt for the wellbeing of this country. I accuse him of calculating that his (unnecessary) referendum would engender a protest vote in communities - like Sunderland and Mansfield - further impoverished by his (unnecessary) austerity policies.

This was a well thought-out plot which Guy Fawkes would admire, if it were not for the fact that the victims will not be the politicians but the mesmerised and stupidised Brexit voters - for whom the Plotters with their neo-liberal, let-it-all-rip, devil-take-the-hindmost agenda have nothing but a belly-laughing contempt.

And in the wings Mrs May held her cards close to her chest, trying to persuade us that she was a Remainer. Really?

Let us be honest. The Brexit debacle will prove to be the worst event in our history since the Norman invasion. The Tory Party do not have the welfare of the people at heart. They have no heart, but only a centre - a fruiting body of self-serving rot which contaminates our society.

David Treddenick - what do you think? Come on - break your silence!! You are our MP. What do you think about Brexit as it stands? THE Government’s failure to correctly implement the Universal Credit programme has at last reached the headlines, despite having caused immense suffering.

The “failures” (to provide the right amount of benefit promptly) have far more serious consequences than the “successes” and therefore should be “scored” as such. The successes are an expectation,

John Payne IN JUNE, more than 23,000 people dusted off their baking bowls and whipped out their whisks to unite against dementia for Alzheimer’s Society’s Cupcake Day.

I’m delighted to say we’ve already raised more than £1million and that figure continues to grow by the day. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the families, friends and colleagues who baked and bought cupcakes to raise awareness of dementia and bring together communities to support people living with the condition.

In Leicestershire and Rutland it is estimated that 12,500 people are NOT an achievement.

A simple change in emphasis is needed from reporting the success percentage to reporting the failure percentage. A success rate that changes from 99% to 98% looks relatively inconsequential – far more striking is a rise in failures from 1% to 2% which is in fact a 100% increase. Robin Mather living with dementia and 850,000 are affected UK-wide.

Dementia is set to be the 21st century’s biggest killer and could affect us all. Every pound raised through Cupcake Day will help Alzheimer’s Society provide vital information and support, campaign for improved care, fund research and create lasting change for people affected by the condition.

You can find out more and sign up for Cupcake Day in 2018 by visiting www.cupcakeday.org.uk Helen Whittington, Alzheimer’s Society Services Manager for Leicestershire and
